Court dismisses suit seeking removal of police boss

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking the sacking of Usman Baba as the Inspector General of Police.

The suit marked FHC/CS/31/2023 was instituted by Michael Idoko against the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and four others.

Delivering his judgement, Justice James Omotoso dismissed the suit on the grounds that the plaintiff lacks the legal right to institute it.

He invoked Section 7(6) of the Police Act 2020 which puts the tenure of office of any IGP at four years.

He maintained that the IGP occupies a sacrosanct four-year tenure office which has nothing to do with his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.
