PSG’s Hakimi to stand trial over rape allegation

Paris Saint-Germain defender and Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France over a rape allegation, following the conclusion of a judicial investigation.

Several French media outlets, including France 24, reported Tuesday that an investigating judge has ordered the case to proceed to trial, citing confirmation from judicial sources and the player’s legal team.

The case dates back to February 2023, when a then-24-year-old woman filed a complaint alleging she was raped at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. She said the alleged incident occurred on February 24 after the pair connected on social media and met in person that evening.

A formal investigation was opened shortly afterward, and Hakimi was placed under formal examination. Prosecutors in Nanterre requested in August 2025 that the case be referred to a criminal court.

Tuesday’s development marks the end of the investigative phase, with the judge determining that there is sufficient basis for the matter to be examined at trial.

Hakimi, 27, has consistently denied the allegation, maintaining that the encounter was consensual.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, he criticized the decision to move forward with a trial while reaffirming his innocence.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false,” he wrote. “This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

No trial date has been announced.
