ICPC details seized items as El-Rufai challenges Abuja home search

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has outlined documents and electronic devices it said were recovered from the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

In filings before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, the commission opposed El-Rufai’s N1bn fundamental rights suit, maintaining that its operatives acted on a valid search warrant executed on February 19 at his Asokoro home.

According to the ICPC, items recovered included investor account statements, asset declaration forms, corporate records, loan documents approved by the Kaduna State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2023, share certificates, land documents, and other financial records.

The commission also listed electronic devices such as flash drives, hard drives, laptops, mobile phones and a tablet, all of which it said were documented and sealed for forensic examination. It added that the operation was witnessed by members of El-Rufai’s family and associates.

El-Rufai, however, is contesting the legality of the search, alleging unlawful arrest and detention. In a statement signed by his son, Bello El-Rufai, the family urged the commission to file formal charges if there is evidence against him and insisted his silence during questioning was a constitutional right.

The ICPC maintains that the investigation, linked to alleged corruption and asset concealment, is being conducted within the law.
