Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of financial misappropriation. Reports indicate that the former governor is being interrogated by EFCC operatives.
While some sources claim Bello was arrested, others suggest he voluntarily arrived at the EFCC office accompanied by his legal team.
This development comes as the EFCC continues to pursue a fresh case against Bello. At the last hearing on November 14, the agency requested an adjournment until November 27, citing the 30-day window for the summons issued earlier.
Bello’s legal troubles with the EFCC date back to April when the agency declared him wanted for allegedly ignoring multiple invitations and resisting arrest. On April 17, EFCC operatives, supported by the Police and Department of State Services (DSS), attempted to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence. The situation escalated into a standoff that lasted several hours.
The standoff took a dramatic turn when Governor Usman Ododo, Bello’s successor, arrived at the scene but left shortly afterward. Reports later suggested that Bello was in Ododo’s vehicle as it departed, prompting security operatives to open fire.
Since that incident, Bello had remained out of public view until his recent appearance at the EFCC office.
