President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the National Defence College (NDC) to focus on producing strategic thinkers capable of strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security framework amid rapidly evolving threats.
Speaking at the State House on Thursday while receiving participants of Course 33, Tinubu said the country must deliberately nurture leaders with the intellectual capacity and analytical skills required to navigate complex security challenges.
“We are building a political, economic, and security future here, and we must develop Nigeria,” he said. “Future strategic leaders must be sufficiently equipped with the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to enhance national power in a dynamic defence and security environment.”
Tinubu described the participants as agents of positive national development, urging them to remain inquisitive and benchmark Nigeria’s progress against global best practices. He stressed the need for resilience, patriotism, and forward thinking in driving national productivity, industrialisation, and economic growth.
“It is our responsibility to ensure that Nigeria is productive, inclusively governed, and able to secure the future of generations yet unborn,” he added.
The president also appealed for patience on the college’s request for the completion of its permanent site, which has been under development since 2010.
Earlier, Commandant A. Ahmed, a rear admiral, said Course 33 consists of 99 participants, including officers from the army, navy, air force, police, and various ministries, departments and agencies. The class also includes 23 international participants from Africa, Asia, and South America. So far, the college has graduated 3,097 senior officers and professionals.
