President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Yokohama, Japan, for a state visit to Brazil, with a brief stopover scheduled in Los Angeles, United States.
Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement released early Friday. He said the president departed Japan on Thursday night and will begin his official engagements in Brasília, Brazil’s capital, on August 24.
The president had arrived in Yokohama on August 18 after leaving Nigeria on August 15, with a transit stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
During his stay in Japan, Tinubu attended the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), an initiative of the Japanese government co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission, and the World Bank.
The conference focused on Africa’s economic transformation, institutional reforms, and private-sector-driven innovation.
On the sidelines, Tinubu also held bilateral meetings and engaged with the Nigerian community in Japan.
