President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms, describing them as “bitter medicine” required to fix Nigeria’s economy.
Addressing Nigerians in Brazil during his state visit, Tinubu admitted that his policies have caused hardship but argued that they are vital to achieving food security, innovation and sustainable prosperity.
He called for patience and resilience, assuring citizens that the reforms would reposition the economy. He also commended Nigerians in the Diaspora for their role in national development, describing them as ambassadors and critical stakeholders.
During the visit, a direct Lagos–São Paulo flight by Air Peace was launched as part of a bilateral aviation agreement. The Presidency said the new route would enhance trade, tourism and cultural exchange while demonstrating Nigeria’s capacity to compete on international routes.
Tinubu concluded his Brazil trip early Thursday morning, returning to Abuja after three days of bilateral engagements.
