Mrs Lizzie Ekpendu, the Comptroller of Kirikiri Female Prisons in Lagos, has been deployed to another prison over a beauty pageant organised at the facility which was won by Chidinma Ojukwu, who is a murder suspect.
The pageant, tagged “Miss Cell 2022” organised by the correctional facility to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, was met with angry reactions all over social media, with many wondering how a murder suspect could be given such publicity.
Ojukwu is facing trial over the alleged murder of Usifo Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV.
There were many reports that she was crowned ‘Miss Cell 2022’, on March 8, 2022 at a beauty contest organised by the prison.
Despite the fact that prison authorities defended the event, according to Vanguard, ‘’the comptroller of the female prisons, Mrs Ekpendu, was redeployed last week as a result of the matter.’’
It was gathered from Vangaurd that a source who did not want his name mentioned, said that Mrs Ekpendu was redeployed to the Lagos Command Headquarters, Alagbon, Ikoyi.
The source was quoted to have said ‘’I can confirm to you that Mrs Ekpendu, the Comptroller of Kirikiri Female Prison has been redeployed to the Lagos Command Headquarters, Ikoyi. She has been replaced by another senior female officer.’’
