Osimhen nets 22nd goal of the season in Galatasaray’s draw

Victor Osimhen bagged a brace as Galatasaray played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa in their Turkish Super Lig clash on Sunday.

The 27-year-old striker converted a penalty and added a stunning finish, but Galatasaray were left frustrated at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium.

The league leaders entered the game on the back of a heated goalless draw against arch-rivals Fenerbahce last Monday. That match sparked controversy off the pitch, as Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho faced accusations of making racist remarks towards the Galatasaray bench. The incident led to a two-game ban for the Portuguese tactician.

Determined to move past the controversy, Galatasaray started strongly, with Osimhen opening the scoring early on. The Nigerian striker coolly dispatched a penalty, sending Kasimpasa goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis the wrong way.

However, the hosts responded swiftly, turning the game around with goals from Murtadha Ouanes and Josip Brekalo.

Galatasaray fought back, as Mario Lemina equalized before Osimhen restored their lead in the 71st minute. The forward showcased his brilliance, twisting past a defender before lifting the ball over Gianniotis for his 22nd goal of the season across all competitions.

Osimhen has been prolific for Galatasaray, scoring six times in the Europa League before their exit and netting 16 goals in the Super Lig—only trailing Istanbul Basaksehir’s Krzysztof Piątek in the league’s scoring charts.

Despite Osimhen’s heroics, Galatasaray couldn’t hold on, as Haris Hajradinović’s late penalty ensured Kasimpasa salvaged a point.

While still unbeaten in the league, Galatasaray has now drawn five of their 25 matches. They remain at the top of the table, seven points ahead of Fenerbahce, who play their 25th match later on Sunday.
