Nigerians sympathise with Naira Marley as he clears the air on Mohbad

Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has drawn sympathy from some Nigerians after speaking at length about the circumstances surrounding the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad.

In a two-hour documentary released on Wednesday, Marley narrated how Mohbad joined Marlian Music, their working relationship, and the events leading up to his death. He denied claims that he bullied or had a hand in the 27-year-old’s demise on September 12, 2023.

“I never bullied him. I never killed him. Everything we did was open and transparent,” Marley said.

Earlier this year, a Yaba Magistrate’s Court cleared Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, Primeboy, and Mohbad’s former manager of complicity in the case. A coroner’s inquest later indicted auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, for negligence in administering treatment to the late singer.

Marley alleged that Mohbad battled substance abuse and mental health struggles, noting that he made efforts to get him medical help. He also addressed past controversies, including financial disputes, the NDLEA raid, and accusations Mohbad once made during a panic attack.

According to him, he was in Amsterdam at the time of Mohbad’s death and believes those with the late singer in his final hours should be questioned.

Since the release of the documentary, reactions have trailed Marley’s remarks, with many Nigerians on social media expressing sympathy for the Soapy crooner and calling for renewed focus on uncovering the true circumstances of Mohbad’s death.
