Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, says Nigerians have already made up their minds about the 2027 general elections due to widespread hardship across the country.
Speaking on Thursday at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Abuja, Kwankwaso lamented the level of poverty and insecurity nationwide.
“Today, many Nigerians struggle to afford food. Many are displaced due to insecurity. Others cannot access hospitals because they have nothing. The people have made their decision about 2027,” he said.
Kwankwaso also pointed to his track record in Kano, including free education from primary to tertiary level, scholarships for over 3,000 students abroad, and security measures that, according to him, kept Kano relatively safe during the Boko Haram insurgency.
The NNPP leader dismissed ongoing defections and political alignments, saying his party would not be distracted.
Ajuji Ahmed, the national chairman of the NNPP, noted that the party has been under pressure to clarify its direction ahead of 2027. He added that inquiries have come not only from Nigerians in the diaspora but also from international organisations.
Ahmed said while the NNPP has a clearer sense of its path, the party would require more time before making final decisions.
