Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has refuted claims by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17 years old.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Thursday, Nwoko described the allegations as “false, misleading, and malicious,” insisting that Regina was 21 at the time of their marriage.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue,” Nwoko said.
The lawmaker explained that when they first met, Regina told him she was 21 and presented her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card showing a birth date of October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21 years old. I further asked if she had any document to support this, and she presented her INEC voter’s card, which clearly shows that she was born on October 10th, 1998,” he said.
According to Nwoko, the marriage took place six years ago, making Regina 27 by all verifiable records.
“Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be accepted by the public,” he added.
Nwoko also alleged that Regina’s recent claims stem from her “current mental condition,” claiming she had started but failed to complete rehabilitation for drug addiction.
“The facts are verifiable and indisputable. I urge the public to approach all her claims with caution, especially taking into account her current mental condition, having started and abandoned rehabilitation from illegal drug addiction,” he stated.
The dispute between the couple has intensified in recent weeks, with Regina accusing Nwoko of introducing her to drugs “for his sexual pleasure” — an allegation he strongly denied.
Nwoko, in turn, blamed Regina’s brother, Sammy Daniels, for exposing her to drugs and sabotaging efforts to rehabilitate her. Sammy was recently arrested in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, and remanded pending bail.
The actress, meanwhile, revealed that her parents—long estranged—recently reconciled amid the ongoing family crisis.
