From the Editorial Suite
From this issue and subsequent ones, Newswatch Plus is now published by Newswatch Plus Limited, instead of MayFive Media Limited. Since the debut of this magazine, an offshoot of your darling Newswatch, the publication has dealt with critical issues of politics, economy and governance, among others. No changes are expected except to improve and serve you better. In this issue, the story of Governor Umo Eno’s grim determination to lift Akwa Ibom State to higher heights is told comprehensively.
Now, Nigeria is marking 25 years of unbroken democratic rule since 1999. In our last issue, 24 years of democracy, we clinically analysed the gains and failures of democracy in 24 years. Concurrently, President Bola Tinubu in a low-key celebration, is also marking his first year in office as Nigeria’s helmsman. The celebration has been low-key because he is acutely aware that it is not yet Uhuru. If anything, it is still hope delayed.
Lastly, at Newswatch Plus we have lost an Amazon, Mrs Uyai Ray Ekpu. She was undoubtedly a woman of substance. The wife of our Chief Executive Officer, Ray Ekpu, succumbed to the cold hands of death on April 21, 2024. We mourn her death which is a collective loss. May her soul rest in peace and may God give Ray and her children the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
