Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), says former Kano governor and ex-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not support President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Galadima alleged that the Tinubu administration has treated Kwankwaso and the NNPP unfairly, particularly in the handling of the Kano emirship tussle.
According to him, the federal government is backing Aminu Ado-Bayero, the dethroned emir, against Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was reinstated by Governor Abba Yusuf in May 2024.
“How can Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town? There is a federal government emir and a state emir,” Galadima said.
He accused security agencies of providing heavy protection for Ado-Bayero while neglecting rising insecurity in some parts of the state. He also faulted the role of the federal high court in the dispute, saying chieftaincy matters are beyond its jurisdiction.
Galadima insisted that the NNPP will play a decisive role in the next general election.
“We are the people who will determine who will be the president of Nigeria in 2027,” he declared.
The Kano emirate has been a flashpoint of political and royal battles for over a decade. Sanusi, a former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, first replaced Ado Bayero in 2014 before being dethroned six years later by then governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Galadima dismissed speculation that Kwankwaso may reconcile with the APC, describing him as “the strongest political iroko in the country today” who successfully challenged the ruling party’s dominance in Kano
