UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch is facing questions over her past after a former Stanford University admissions officer disputed her claim that she once secured admission to study pre-med at the institution.
Badenoch has repeatedly said she was offered a partial scholarship to Stanford at age 16 but could not attend because of cost, citing it as proof of both her academic ability and her family’s financial struggles.
However, Stanford does not have a pre-med major, and Jon Reider, the admissions officer in charge of international students at the time, said no such offer was made.
“Although 30 years have passed, I would definitely remember if we had admitted a Nigerian student with financial aid. The answer is that we did not do so,” Reider told The Guardian.
He also dismissed the idea of partial scholarships. “If an applicant needed $30,000 a year, we would offer the full amount. There was no point offering less because they would not have been able to attend.”
Badenoch has not yet responded to the latest questions surrounding her claim, which has previously appeared in interviews with The Huffington Post and The Times.
