Italy lost 1-0 to North Macedonia in their World Cup playoff semi-final in Palermo on Thursday night after Aleksandar Trajkovski scored the winning goal in second-half stoppage time.
Italy have lost their chance to compete in this year’s World Cup after being defeated by North Macedonia.
The European champions failed to score a single goal during their play-off semi-final at home with the final result 1-0 denying the Azzurri a World Cup spot.
North Macedonia’s Aleksander Trajkovski scored the winning goal in second-half stoppage time, sparking wild celebrations from the crowd.
As the final whistle was blown, several of Italy’s players were seen crying while their opposition celebrated.
Italy also failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. But since then, they have had a rollercoaster couple of years including beating England in the final of the Euros last summer.
Unfortunately, this is another huge setback.
