A magistrate court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has summoned Dino Melaye, former senator representing Kogi West, over alleged tax defaults amounting to almost N500 million.
The court order, signed by Magistrate Chiemena Nonye-Okoronkwo on August 21, 2025, requires Melaye to appear in Wuse Zone II on September 5.
According to the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Melaye failed to pay assessed liabilities of N234.9 million for 2023 and N274.7 million for 2024. The agency also cited cases of under-declaration and underpayment in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Documents seen by Newswatch Plus show that Melaye paid N85,000 in 2019, N100,000 in 2020, N120,000 in 2021, and N1 million in 2022, despite declaring higher earnings.
In May this year, the FCT-IRS raised an administrative assessment for 2023 and 2024. After Melaye failed to respond, a Best of Judgment assessment was issued in June, fixing the liabilities at N509.6 million.
The agency said Melaye has the right to object within 30 days, but warned that failure to comply would make the assessment final and trigger enforcement actions.
Melaye is expected to state his position when he appears before the court in September.
