Mathias Tsado, a former presidential aspirant of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), has called on ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election, describing him as the country’s “best hope for national recovery.”
Tsado, who was the presidential candidate of the Liberation Movement in 2019, made the appeal on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
He argued that Jonathan’s return to power offered the most viable solution to Nigeria’s economic and security crises.
“We need him back in 2027. This is not about politics but about saving Nigeria. He has the experience, the temperament, and the vision to bring our country back from the brink,” Tsado said.
According to him, Jonathan’s administration left behind strong democratic values and reforms that could be revived to restore stability. He noted that many Nigerians still view the former president as a unifying figure.
Tsado urged Jonathan’s close associates to persuade him to enter the race, stressing that Nigeria was at a “critical crossroads.”
“Those around him should speak to him with one voice. Nigeria needs him more than ever. His leadership style is what can calm tensions and redirect the economy,” he added.
The call comes amid rising speculations over possible contenders for the 2027 election. While Jonathan has not declared any interest, Tsado insisted the former leader remained the most credible option for steering Nigeria back on course.
