Customs operatives seize firearms at Lagos airport

Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos have stopped a pistol with two magazines containing 26 rounds of ammunition from getting into the city.

Victor Ogagbor, the Public Relations Officer of the command, made this known in a statement this morning.

According to Ogagbor, the items were seized during the routine examination at the ‘D’ wing of the Arrival Hall MMIA, at 11.05 am yesterday.

He added that the items were seen in baggage belonging to a passenger who arrived from Washington DC through United Airlines.

“The suspected passenger had earlier been accused by Nigeria Immigration Service of illegally being in possession of two International Passports,” he said.

The PRO said that the importation of the firearm goes against Schedule 4 of the Customs and Excise and Management Act which was an Absolute Prohibition.

“The NCS MMIA command has since handed over the suspect and the arms to the Department of States Services,” he said.
