Arsenal thrash Leeds 5–0 as Gyökeres opens account

Arsenal produced a ruthless display at the Emirates on Saturday, dismantling Leeds United 5–0 in their Premier League clash.

Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres scored his first goals for the club, while 15-year-old Max Dowman made a dream debut, winning a penalty to cap off a memorable evening for the Gunners.

Defender Jurrien Timber set the tone, rising highest to head in from a Declan Rice corner midway through the first half. He struck again just after the hour mark, showcasing his growing attacking influence from full-back.

Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s lead before the break with a composed finish, but his joy was short-lived. The winger later limped off with what manager Mikel Arteta described as a “significant” hamstring problem. Skipper Martin Ødegaard also left the pitch after a shoulder injury, adding to the club’s fitness concerns.

Big-money signing Gyökeres, recruited from Sporting Lisbon, finally announced himself to the home crowd. He struck Arsenal’s third early in the second half and coolly dispatched a stoppage-time penalty after young Dowman was brought down in the box.

Dowman, at just 15 years old, became the second youngest player in Premier League history. His fearless cameo drew rapturous applause from the Emirates faithful and underlined Arsenal’s commitment to nurturing youth.

Before kick-off, the club unveiled new signing Eberechi Eze to supporters. The Crystal Palace playmaker is expected to add further creativity to Arteta’s side as they push for silverware.

The commanding victory lifts Arsenal’s spirits and strengthens their early-season momentum. Yet, the injuries to Saka and Ødegaard could cast a shadow over an otherwise perfect night.
