The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has denied rumours that the Nollywood movie star Olu Jacobs is dead.
As has happened in the past, rumours surfaced via social media on Sunday purporting the death of the ace actor.
Emeka Rollas, the AGN president, described the claim as “false news” when contacted by TheCable.
TheCable also contacted close family members of the actor, none of whom had responded as of this report.
This is not the first time Jacobs, who has been battling dementia with Lewy bodies, would be the subject of a death scare.
Rumours that Jacobs had died circulated in 2021, the same year his wife Joke Silva first disclosed his ailing health.
These rumours were dispelled when Jacobs made a public appearance at the 2021 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).
In 2022, the death rumours resurfaced, prompting Silva to threaten a lawsuit against netizens making unfounded claims.
“To all those who have decided to ignore our last warning regarding fake news, kindly prepare for legal action,” she said.
Olu Jacobs is a veteran actor who has starred in Nigerian, British, and international film/TV projects since the 1970s.
Jacobs was honoured with the prestigious Industry Merit Award for outstanding achievements in acting at the 2013 AMVCA.
In August 2022, he was also presented an icon award along with his wife by the Audio-Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS).
Jacobs has been married to Joke Silva, who is also an actor, since 1989.
They have two children.
